Census: Welsh language
Every 10 years the nation sets aside one day for the Census - a count of all people and households. It is the most complete source of information about the population that we have.
The Census is the key source of information about the number of people who can speak Welsh. More regular information on the Welsh language can be obtained from the Annual Population Survey or the National Survey for Wales. More detailed information about Welsh speakers’ use of Welsh in a range of settings is available from Welsh Language Use Surveys.
