General description

This dataset gives details on foreign and domestic sea traffic at ports in Wales up to the 2022. Data are presented as the volume of traffic (million tonnes) at ports in Wales.

Data collection and calculation

Port freight traffic statistics are based on a combination of data reported to the DfT by port authorities and shipping lines or their agents.

The statistics relate to cases in Wales from 2008 up to the year 2022.

These statistics are used both within and outside the Welsh Government to monitor trends in sea transport and as a baseline for further analysis.
