This dataset provides population estimates for the local authorities in Wales, the English regions and the UK countries for the period 1981 to 1990 by gender and five year age group. These estimates were revised in March 2003 to be consistent with the results of the 2001 Census and reflect the administrative boundaries of the local authorities as of 1 April 2001. Please note there is a slight inconsistency for 39 year olds in 1984 but there are no planned revisions to these data to address this.
Data relate to the 30 June of each year. More information on the methodology used to produce these estimates can be found at: http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/guide-method/method-quality/quality/quality-information/population/index.html.
Data are provided on an unrounded basis although the Office for National Statistics advise that any results presented from these data are rounded to the nearest 100 where practical.
