[Collapse]RenewalInformation on individual assistance and Group repair\' type schemes was collected from 2004-05. A “Group repair” type scheme is a generic term and not defined in legislation. It is used to cover a range of schemes that local authorities may have in their local policies for the purpose of renewing a number of dwellings at the same time. [Collapse]ExpenditureThe total number of dwellings improved during the year was collected from 2004-05 and only includes those dwellings where the work has been completed. Local authority expenditure includes all expenditure during the year, whether or not the work has been completed. It includes any residual activity approved before July 2003 under part 1 of the Housing Grants, Constructions and Regeneration Act 1996 and includes any expenditure of Disabled Facility Grants within renewal areas. Specific Capital Grants includes all expenditure, whether or not the work has been completed. Grants for first time buyers are also included. Information on Specific Capital Grants was only collected from 2008-09 onwards. Third party assistance includes any assistance to renewal activity from other sources.[Filter]

General description

The information presented here relates to renewal areas funded primarily by local authorities. The information is collected in order to establish the amount spent annually across Wales on renewal areas and the number of dwellings that have been improved. This data provides monitoring information for the Welsh Government in order to evaluate the effectiveness of renewal area programmes and to help develop future policy for area based renewal.

Data collection and calculation

The information presented here is collected via annual returns from Welsh planning authorities on Renewal Areas during each year.

Data are shown for each financial year from 1996-97.

Note that, due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in 2020, data on renewal area expenditure in Wales for 2019-20 were not collected.
