The information is collected in order to capture the number of children receiving care and support, or young carers receiving support, who have been assessed through the new assessment process set out in Part 3 (Assessing the needs of individuals) of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014. This is the same assessment process referred to under Part 6 (Looked After and Accommodated Children).Data collection and calculation
While extensive efforts have been made to gather reliable and accurate information from local authorities, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 data remains imperfect. In 2017-18, Caerphilly and Newport were only able to provide data up until the 13th February 2018 and 6th March 2018 respectively. This was due to both local authorities migrating to a new ICT system during the year.
The Vale of Glamorgan was unable to provide data for 2017-18, due to technical issues with their ICT systems.
