General description

The information presented here shows the number and percentage of band 1 examinations that were claimed through Wales General Ophthalmic Services (WGOS) 2 scheme by reason of attendance. Prior to 2023-24, similar services to WGOS 2 were offered through Eye Health Examination Wales (EHEW).

Data collection and calculation

More than one reason may be recorded per claim. Therefore the sum of Band 1 examinations by reason for attendance would not equal the overall number of Band 1 examinations.

Other reasons for attendance (not included in the data) include patient has retinitis pigmentosa, is at risk of eye disease due to family history, is at risk of eye disease due to ethnic background, needs investigations to comply with WG agreed protocols/guidelines.

Data is sourced from ophthalmic payments systems, maintained by primary care services in NHS Shared Services Partnership (NWSSP).

1st April 2019 health service provision for residents of Bridgend local authority moved from Abertawe Bro Morgannwg to Cwm Taf. For more information see the joint statement from Cwm Taf and Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Boards (see weblinks). The health board names have changed with Cwm Taf University Health Board becoming Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board and Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board becoming Swansea Bay University Health Board.
