In 2023-24, a new service called sore throat test and treat (STTT) was introduced for patients who had a common ailments consultation for sore throat and tonsilitis. The STTT service enables pharmacists to employ point of care tests as part of the assessment to support clinical decision making and the supply of appropriate treatment. The use of point of care tests can help identify whether a streptococcus bacterial infection is the cause of the symptoms and prevent the unnecessary use of antibiotics. The data shows the number of consultations in the financial year based on claims made by pharmacies.
Data is based on claims, therefore the same person may be counted multiple times if they had multiple consultations/tests.
