Change to Data Source
A patient level data set with more detailed information is being assessed for suitability and robustness, with the aim to replace the aggregate data, as the main data source for GP referrals. At present the data is not of good enough quality but this is being addressed. More details of timing will follow in future Statistical Releases. This data will be captured by NHS Wales Informatics Service from the Local Health Boards and sent to the Welsh Assembly Government.
Currently the Statistical Directorate within the Welsh Assembly Government receives aggregate returns by specialty for each of the Local Health Boards.
Severe Weather in December 2010
Figures for December 2010 are generally lower due to seasonal change and service issues such as the effect of bank holidays. Also the severe weather across Wales during December 2010 has had an effect on the number of referrals.
