Revised 9th September 2021 due to updated figures provided by Vale of Glamorgan for 2018.Statistical quality
Sickness absence returns are collated from schools and validated by Local Authorities. Subsequently automated validation and sense-checks are built into the data collection process to ensure a high quality of data. This data relates to maintained schools only and relates to the previous calendar year.Figures for 2020 include some Covid related absences. Processes for recording Covid related absences varied across local authorities, and were not all able to separate those instances from general sickness absences. Therefore, where local authorities were able to split out their Covid related absences they have been included in the figures for 2020 for consistency.
For the 2020 data, the form only requested for total number days lost for COVID sickness absences. Where local authorities provided total number of days lost due to Covid related absences they have been included as 'Unknown'.
