Data Provider: Welsh Government National Statistics Staff at Welsh HEIs by gender, institution, year and mode of employment
None
[Collapse]OccupationHESA have classified the job titles within the HE sector into 13 broad occupational categories. A seperate grouping has been provided for non-academic staff which is the total of all categories aside from Academic professionals. Staff have been apportioned into categories based on full-person equivalance. That is, if the contracts for a particular staff member suggested that the person was 50 per cent academic and 50 per cent non-academic they would be apportioned as such in the figures. Therefore the total numbers are not individual staff numbers but the total of full-person equivalances.[Filter]

Year2008/09 is the first year in a new timeseries which does not include a variable relating to the grade of staff.[Filter]
[Collapse]ModeMode of employment is an attribute of the contract, not the person. Therefore, a person will be counted as wholly part-time, even if they hold a number of part-time contracts that sum to one FTE. [Filter]

The new record covers all academic and non-academic staff who have a contract of employment with a higher education institution (HEI) in the UK.

Note that the figures for Welsh HEIs include staff and finance data for the University of Wales Registry. Staff figures relate to staff with contracts active at December 1st of the academic year in question.

The Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) collect data on students, staff and resources of higher education institutions (HEIs) in the UK. Further information about HESA and their data collections, including some online tables, can be found on their website www.hesa.ac.uk

Rounding strategy
The presentation of figures in this table follows the principals of the HESA rounding strategy. The strategy is intended to prevent the disclosure of personal information about any individual. This strategy involves rounding all numbers to the nearest 5. A summary of this strategy is as follows:
· 0, 1, 2 are rounded to 0 and represented as '*'.
· All other numbers are rounded to the nearest 5

Total figures are also subject to this rounding methodology; the consequence of which is that the sum of numbers in each row or column may not match the total shown precisely.
