General description

The Welsh Government’s Performance Management Framework for measuring Fire and Rescue Authority performance was introduced in 2007. In 2015 a consultation took place to ascertain the impact of reducing the number of indicators. The new performance indicators are grouped under two themes: ‘risk reduction and community safety’ and ‘effective response’

Data collection and calculation

The information presented here is collected via annual returns from Welsh fire and rescue authorities on the results against a series of agreed performance measures.

Frequency of publication

Annual

Data reference periods

Data are shown for each financial year from 2004-05 through to 2015-16.

Users, uses and context

Please find this information in the related statistical publication, as per the given weblink.

Rounding applied

Performance indicators expressed as rates are generally rounded to 2 decimal places. Performance indicators expressed as absolute quantities are shown as unrounded integers.

Revisions information

Some performance indicator denominator data, for example population data, non-domestic premises data and domestic dwellings data will be updated to reflect the most recently published data (for example the revision to historical population data in 2013 to take account of the latest Census results). Revising the data in this way ensures coherence between the different detailed datasets presented on StatsWales, and helps to avoid confusion. Although in practice this may result in differences between statswales and the statistical releases, which provides a snapshot of the data at the time of publishing, such differences are typically very small and often unnoticeable at the level of precision presented.

Corrections to some historical indicator data are sometimes received as part of the latest data collection and in these cases, data are updated in both the latest version of the publication and StatsWales.
