General description
The table shows the number of deliberate fires attended each quarter by the Fire and Rescue Authorities in Wales.

Data for 2016-17 and 2017-18 are currently provisional
Data for April to September 2017 were extracted in February 2018.
Data from April 2015 to March 2017 were extracted from IRS in August 2017.
Data from April 2014 to March 2015 were extracted from IRS in July 2016.
Data from April 2013 to March 2014 were extracted from IRS in June 2015.
Data from April 2012 to March 2013 were extracted from IRS in May 2014
Data from April 2011 to March 2012 were extracted from IRS in May 2013.
Data from April 2010 to March 2011 were extracted from IRS in May 2012.
Data from April 2009 to March 2010 were extracted from IRS in May 2011.
Data prior to April 2009 were collected via the paper forms, FDR1 and FDR3. Data prior to April 2009 were collected via the paper forms, FDR1 and FDR3. Numbers of fires prior to April 2009 are based on a sampled database.

Data collection and calculation
Data prior to 2009-10 were collected via the Fire Data Report (FDR) paper forms.
Data from 2009-10 onwards were collected via the Incident Recording System (IRS).

Twice yearly

Data shown in quarters, bracketed in financial years.
From 2007-08 to 2017-18.

Users, uses and context
The data are used to inform policy decisions and to provide contextual information. The data is used by the Welsh Government to help monitor trends in incidents attended by FRAs over time and provides information on FRAs’ performance and activities to citizens and communities in Wales.

Rounding applied
Fire data prior to 2009-10 are based on a sampled dataset and so are rounded to the nearest whole number. For this reason the sum of component parts may not equal the totals shown.
