[Collapse]Iron production (kilo-tonnes)This is the blast furnace production of all grade of iron and ferro-manganese suitable for use in either steel furnaces or iron foundries.[Collapse]Crude steel production (kilo-tonnes)This is the total of useable ingots, useable continuously cast semi-finished products up to liquid steel for casting.<br /><br />Production data for 2004 onwards excludes the very small proportion of production that occurs in steel foundries. Prior to 2004, the figures include production in steel foundries.[Collapse]People employed in iron and steel industryThis is the number of people working in the iron and steel industry as defined by the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) in the Treaty of Paris (1951) and includes blast furnaces and associated plant, steel melting shops, ingot casting and continuous casting plant, hot rolling mills and cold wide strip or plate mills together with associated coating plants and tinplate mills.
