As the demand increases for statistics and data to measure the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have had to change our data gathering and release practices, focussing efforts on priority analysis and statistics.

Data Provider: Welsh Government National Statistics Number of attendances in NHS Wales accident and emergency departments by age band, sex and site

Following the announcement on Friday 13th of March regarding the cancellation of certain medical procedures and the relaxation of performance targets, several national data collections have been temporarily ceased and we will also temporarily stop reporting performance statistics. These changes will be in place until at least the October reporting period. Therefore the monthly StatsWales updates will now provide only a summary of activity data.

General description
Data Prior to January 2013 will not be directly comparable with data for January 2013 onwards due to a change in methodology. See notes in March 2013 release for more details (January 2013).
Please note that this information is provided for contextual purposes only. The figures exclude data from some minor injury units (MIUs) in Wales as well as patients with unknown or invalid age or sex, and therefore total attendances would be lower than those quoted in statistical releases and other StatsWales datasets.
While there are some small numbers in the data collected and presented, the information is not considered to be sensitive in nature and there is no identifying information presented.
