This dataset gives a detailed breakdown of work-based learning (WBL) programmes pursued by learners either domiciled in Wales, or attending institutions in Wales, giving details of the area of residence of each learner pursuing the activity, the programme type (e.g. modern apprenticeships), and the sector (e.g. engineering) as well as information relating to the age and gender of the learner.
Note this dataset contains data on WBL programmes only.
To avoid potential disclosure of learners through their WBL programmes, figures are rounded to the nearest 5, and whilst true zeros are displayed, any values of 1, 2, 3 or 4 are suppressed using a '*' symbol.
To avoid the presence of many suppressed figures, it is thus advisable to limit the number of dimensions viewed at any time in this table, by viewing only the total for those dimensions which are not of interest. In the case of tables looking at sector, please note the sector is largely unknown for certain programme types (preparatory learning and other WBL programmes), and so analysis should be restricted to the given sub total of programme types for which the sector is allocated.
This dataset uses the term WBL without reference to funding criteria and therefore the definition of WBL differs from that used for funding purposes. For example, some of the learning programmes detailed may relate to technical certificates delivered at Further Education (FE) institutions and funded via FE funding methodologies.
These data are classed as National Statistics.
